Central Texas Certification 10/04/2020

Published on October 5, 2020 under Certifications

The Earth Native Wilderness School organized a Track and Sign Certification around Bastrop, Texas from Oct 3-4, 2020.

It’s a strange year due to COVID-19, and we took precautions to wear masks and stay spread out from each other as much as possible.

We saw the tracks of 28 species, including 16 mammals, 8 birds, and 4 invertebrates. We spent the first day on the banks of the Colorado River at Vernon L. Richards River Bend Park. We saw tracks of nutria, beaver, river otter, great-blue heron, great egret, spotted sandpiper, and marks in the mud where a fisherman was dragging his lure.

Day 2 was spent at the Earth Native School property where among others, we saw hog, deer, gray fox, and coyote tracks! See the photos below.

Congratulations to Zachary Wardle and Sophia Shelburne for earning their Level 3 certificates!

A big thanks to Dave Scott of Earth Native Wilderness School for organizing this certification. Thanks also to Ashley Bea for assisting.
