San Francisco Tracker Certification 6/17/2018

Published on June 19, 2018 under Certifications

Matt Nelson and I conducted a Track and Sign Certification in the San Francisco Bay Area from June 16-17, 2018.

We saw the tracks of 28 species, including 14 mammals, 11 birds, 2 herps, and 1 invertebrate. We spent the first day at the Pescadero Marsh National Preserve where we saw some great tracks despite strong winds, encroaching tides and a small incident with an aggressive nest of yellow jackets. We found tracks and sign of bobcats, terns, vole, and banana slugs. Day 2 was spent at Abbotts Lagoon in Point Reyes. It was a long drive, but worth it as we found beautiful tracks of long-tailed weasel and river otter. See the photos below.

A big thanks to Curt Bianchi for organizing this certification. I also want to thank Matt Nelson for co-evaluating and sharing his knowledge with the group. Thanks also to Erica Harris for helping out and providing so much logistical support.
