Texas Parks and Wildlife hosted a tracking certification in South Texas Jan 16-17, 2013. We went to Laguna Atascosa Wildlife Refuge and Estero Llano Grande State Park and saw some amazing tracks.
We saw the tracks of 24 species, including 16 mammals, 3 birds, 1 herp, and 4 invertebrates! Some of the highlights were: beautiful ocelot tracks (yes, we were in one of the only places is the USA where this species occurs!), perfect shrew tracks, nilgai (an exotic antelope) scat, and a bobcat skull!
Thanks to Richard Heilbrun for arranging the workshop. Thanks also to Dave Moskowitz for co-evaluating and Dave Scott for helping.
